How do i take a picture of a part of my screen. but not the whole thing?

Answers:
alt key + print scr will only take a pic of the window that I being used
Just take the whole picture buy pressing prtscn on your keyboard, then go into paint and edit that certain part out of the picture that you want. Save it, problem solved.
Easiest way I can think of is to do a Shift + PrintScreen (capture whole screen), Paste it into Paint, then use the selection tool in Paint to select the area of the screenshot that you want, and copy it, hit New, then paste again, leaving you with what part of the screen you wanted to capture...

If you have IrfanView, you could simply take a screenshot and use IrfanView's Crop function, which is slightly faster than paste, select, copy, new, paste in Paint.
If you press ALT + PrtSc it will capture just the active window. Resize the window and then press that.
If you're wanting to take a screenshot of a dialog box, hold ALT + Print Screen. Saves the fuss of cropping.
There is a program called snagit that allows you to choose what part of the screen to make an image of. It is free to try from their website
Go to www.cnet.com
click on downloads and in the search bar on the top right type in "Screen Print"
There's a few free programs that will let you save or print any part of the screen you want.
I use Screen Print & Capture 32 3.5...
It does a lot and it's free...Joe
