I have a nvidia 8500gt chipset graphics card. while installing XP, the default driver installs upto a resolution of 1680X1050 but after installing the original card driver maximum resolution is only 1024X768..how do i get the maximum out of my card?

It could be caused by a driver conflict. Try locating both sets of drivers and uninstall them. You may have to do this from your lowest resolution or safe mode. Then use the nvidia driver installer you downloaded again.
