Recommended colors for emulating terminals?

I use putty, xterm, dtterm and many more telnet, ssh terminals, but I always wonder which are the best color schemes to allow the eyes to rest. I know there are issues with contrast, font size and color to be considered, but would like to have an informed opinion on the matter.

i like a black background with lime green text. It has that sort of 1970s mono crt feel to it.
