I really need to use it today...I haven't been able to get it to work for months! It looks like everything is plugged in, so what could the problem be?

may be the printer is out of ink/toner.
or check the printer software or reinstall the software.
plug the wire correctly.
if still have a problem give it to repair,service center.

Maybe your out of toner/ink
Because your kids put a pencil or a straw in the way of where the paper comes out?
That's what my kids did
I would try unplugging the wires and reinstalling the printer.
