However, laser printer cartridges are usually securely sealed, so the chances of the contents spilling out into the air is fairly rare. Besides, it's not like you run into people in the streets carrying around exposed laser printer cartridges like they carry around lit cigarettes.
And quite frankly, if you actually break into the housing of nearly any electronic device there are some harmful stuff in there. Your typical computer monitor or television contains mercury, cathode day tubes, barium, and a host of other agents that can lead to cancer, skin disease, premature birth, and a host of other ailments. But if you never break open a monitor you will never be exposed to those problems, and the same could be said of laser printer cartridges, so your worries aren't really necessary. Just recycle your computer and printer parts properly and you'll be fine.
