My printer, HP1210,will not communicate with my computer. Any ideas?

If you have loaded all the software correctly it may be the cable.
If the cable your using to connect it is too long it won't get the signal. I found that out when I bought my printer, the person at the store said it would work so I bought a long one to reach to another place off of my desk. It did not work, I knew the printer was working because I could print from the printer alone but not from the computer.
I contacted the manufacturer of my printer which is also an HP and they told me if the cable is too long it won't work, get a shorter cable. I did that and have had no problems since.
I know it sounds ridiculous but it's the truth, my first cable was 6 ft. long, my current one is 3 ft. HP told me 3 feet is the maximum length I should be using for it to work.
did you install the software? is the usb connected to the computer? is the ink empty?
more info please
there could be a lot of reasons for this to happen, check if the drivers are installed correctly, check if the USB or serial cable you are using are connected correctly, or try plugging it into another port.
Reboot the machine. If that does not work, delete the printer from "Printers & Faxes" in the control panel. Then delete any of the HP software from "Add / Remove Programs" and then reinstall the software (I know this may take a while).
Make sure you turn your printer off as well when you do all of this. Sometimes simply turning the printer on and off can restore functionality.
