What do I need to be able to print from my laptop without having to unplug my PC?
Answers:
A print server, either wireless or hardwired. If your printer is already network capable, wireless or hardwired, it needs to be on a router and the drivers configured for all computers that use it for network use.
Wireless would work, But in your network settings You can set it to share the printer as long as its on the same network. You can also share files. I think thats more of what you want and cheaper to.
