I bought the laserjet about 3 months ago and have not been printing much. Whenever I print something, there is a huge gap on the right side of the page that's blank, but the rest of the paper is fine and printed. Could it be a problem with the toner or the printer itself?

It is the toner, you just need to replace it. The drum is most likely not receiving a charge. A new toner will fix that.
