I have learned to print on material through my printer but need a way of sealing it so can be washed any ideas

i know i can get it printed at a shop but that defeats the object
any thoughts greatly recieved

Best way is simply to buy the "Iron on tranfers" that are suitable for your printer (inkjet or laser, get right one to match your machine) then IRON them to T Shirt, job done.

printing direct to material WILL NEVER be water resistant.
You can buy special transfer sheets from WH Smith.

There are two types, one type for white or light T-shirts and the other type for black or dark T-Shirts.

Once ironed on, they seal themselves and can be washed at up to 40 degrees. Just be careful when you come to iron them and avoid ironing on the decoration.
Why don't you just print it onto proper transfer paper then iron the picture to the t-shirt saves all the assle.
