If this don't work then...
First try to uninstall (Control Manager>Add remove programs) all the printer drivers installed on you're computer. Then reboot you're computer. This may help clean the spooler of you're computer.
Considering that you're using usb and usb port has the needed drivers installed, reinstall you're printer based on the instruction of you're printer. (Download the updated driver as much as possible).
This may solve you're problem provided you're printer is still ok.
Note: Open spooler means that she has pending jobs needed to be done.
Sounds like the default printer is not the one you are tryin to use.
