Lexmark printers are notoriously expensive to run. The cartridges cost muc h more than any of their competitors and they dry out quickly when not used.
Lexmark uses a 10 year old thermal inkjet technology developed by HP, they are unreliable. You will have nothing but headaches and frustration with a lexmark printer.
I have found all lexmark's are dear for ink and not very good
Some people will tell you they're good, some people will say they are bad...
Why don't you get a specialists, professional opinion. All the opinion you get hear will be subjective and limited to an individuals personal experience. You will also find that those who have had a bad experience will scream the loudest...
i have used several Lexmark printers and so far i have had no serious problems, as stated before, they are a little heavy on ink. do you have Vista? if so make sure that it is Vista compatable, if you intend upgrading to Vista in the future then ensure that you can get the drivers, Lexmark are one of the companies that seem reluctant to bring out drivers for Vista. i guess the bottom line as always is 'you get what you pay for'. take care and good luck.
