if you want to know further about Xerox please read the following message.
*** Xerox was founded in 1906 as "The Haloid Company",[1] which originally manufactured photographic paper and equipment. The company subsequently changed its name to "Haloid Xerox" in 1958. The company came to prominence in 1959 with the introduction of the first plain paper photocopier using the process of xerography (electrophotography) developed by Chester Carlson, the Xerox 914 [1]. The 914 was so popular that by the end of 1961, Xerox had almost $60 million in revenue. By 1965, revenues leaped to over $500 million. Before releasing the 914, Xerox had also introduced the first xerographic printer, the "Copyflo" in 1955.

It's not even pronounced "x-er-ox" but "zeer-rox"
Original brand name like Coke and Kleenex..
Hi,

Because XEROX is the first who launched photocopier.

Rgds,

Xerox was one of the first companies to produce photocopiers. So even though many copiers people use are not made by Xerox anymore, it's still called Xerox just because thats what *everyone* used to have.

Similar to how frisbees are called frisbees. That was actually one company who made them, but they were so popular that even though other companies now make discs, they're still called frisbees.
Xerox is the name of the company that originally came up with photocopiers. Kind of like calling a hot tub a Jacuzzi, which is also a brand name.
In Serbia we are calling it photocopy machine ... But xerox was first company that made photocopier (i think) .
I noticed that in many countries it's called xerox ... maybe it's easier
It's because one of the first companies which introduced photocopying machines was Xerox. The name has etched in since then.
xerox is the name of the company which is used to photocopy...
the actual name of xerox is photo copying .. jus as we call noodles as maggy most of the times here also we do the same!!
Actually, it is a photocopy. This was founded in 1906 by "The Haloid Company", which originally manufactured photographic paper and equipment. The company subsequently changed its name to "Haloid Xerox" in 1958. So most people call this photocopy as xerox, like we often call a chocolate as cadbury, being the manufacturer's name.
same reason people ask for a klenex and not a facial tisue...
becasue at one time xerox was king... the grand pooba, the one and only. the cats meow..

I remember my great grandmother used to say she needed to "hoover" the carpet. same idea there too...

you get the idea..
