last printer had print in geyscvale tick box, no options here, even tryed pulling out the colour cartridge, just says put a new one in when there is a totally fully black one! please haelp!

You need to download this driver, it allows you to choose between colour and black.

most times when you go to print anything you get a confirmation screen come up, if you click on the properties tab the you should get the option to print colour images in monochrome(black and white) click on this setting and then click on apply/OK and then you should get a black and white print.
remember to reset this prior to trying to print in colour again.
