Computer scanning pictures question!!?

I want to resize the pictures I scan onto my computer so you don't see any of the white from the scanner behind the picture--how do you do this? I'm new to this computer thing so easy instructions please!

Answers:
What make scanner do you have? Most scanner application software have a 'preview' function where you click when you are about to scan.
This does a quick high-speed scan of your document and then displays the result.

You should then see a dotted line around the edge of the image you have on screen. You can resize this by clicking on the squares on the corners of the rectangle.

The scanner will only scan what is inside this dotted area =)

If you need help, I can make a video tutorial for you =)
you can do it by another program like photoshop or what ever
here it is a link to a free websoftware
good luck
I use Irfanview to crop pictures. It's also good for resizing, brightening, rotating, and so on. Works on scans and on digital photos, too. It's free, at www.irfanview.com.
