Is it safe to disconnect my scanner without turning off my computer?

I have a scanner connected to my computer and I want to disconnect it without shutting down my computer. This wouldn't be a problem if it were connected through USB, but it's an older scanner and it's connected to LPT1. I know it's not hot pluggable, but would it be safe to disconnect my scanner from my computer without first shutting down if the scanner is turned off and it's power supply is disconnected?

Answers:
if its power supply is disconnected then it is ok, you can do whatever you want..
Yes. Sounds like some old hardware... Make sure power is off to scanner when plugging back in.
don't have a clue
If it's plugged into the parallel port or LPT1 then no it's not recommended to unplug it with the computer on. If you do it'll probably freeze up the computer and you'll end up rebooting anyway. what's the harm in shutting it down briefly.
It will be as long as you shutdown the scanner power first and then unplug.

I am assuming that you are doing this for a reason - like you want to run a printer and a scanner on the same LPT1 port.

If that is the case you can do this without switching the scanner off by using a something like a 2 Way Automatic Bi-directional Printer Switch. Our the cheaper manual printer switch.

Hope this helps you.
