Scanner Question?

I have a Cannon MP730 which is a fax, scanner, copier. If I scan a document it goes out as jpeg (?) and i can't edit the document either in word or picassa.

how can i add notes to the doc and save to my documents on computer?

If you do not want to edit the document, but rather add some note on top of the scanned image, you can use Gimp, a free photo editor

But if you need to convert the scanned text to editable text, you need an OCR software.
The best OCR in my opinion is Abby finereader http://www.abbyy.com/finereader_ocr/...
You need an OCR program like textbridge, most scanner have a free version. It will scan a document in as text so you can edit it.
