H.P ScanJet 5P won't work with XP. Any Suggestions?

I have a " good - as - new " H.P. ScanJet 5P, yes I know it's ancient but it's a great scanner. Replacing it won't be expensive either, BUT.. why should I ? I've had it since Win98 and never had a problem with it. But now I have XP Prof. it doesn't work and H. P. say that are not doing an upgrade on the software for it. I'd be very grateful for any advise or info on how or where I can find software to get this scanner working again with XP. Thanks :-))

I use my ScanJet 5P with no problems under XP. I didn't use the HP supplied SCSI Card though. I am using an Adaptec USB to SCSI Adapter. Before the USB adapter though I was using another Adaptec SCSI card and was still able to get it to work. Once the SCSI adapter is recognized, XP picked up the scanner very quickly.
If HP says they're not going to upgrade the 5P's drivers, why should anyone else? For the amount of time it would take to crack the driver, figure out how to make it Vista compatible and do it, they could just go spend the few hundred bucks and get a new one, probably with more features.

I wouldn't spend my time looking. HP has made so many printer models it would be prohibitive for them to make them all Vista compliant.

Sorry, but I think you have a dinosaur there.
